BOOT SETS NEW RECORD

Two records were broken on the fast track at Masterton Amateur Athletic Club’s annual meeting on the Park Oval to-day. Officials consider that the meeting was the most successful held by the club for ten years.

V. P. Boot, the New Zealand Empire Games representative, who sails to-mor-iow for Sydney to compete in the New South Wales athletic championships, bioke a long-standing 600 yards record of lmin 13 2-ssec, set up on the Park Oval track by R. Johnston, South Africa. Paced by a relay of local runners. Root returned the time of lmin 13sec, finishing with a strong sprint. A. L. Fitch, the Wellington and Cantci bury coach, paced by. a cyclist, clipped 2 6sec off a 440 yards record of 49 4-5, established by Parker, U.S.A., in 1926. Starting off sciatch, W. A. C. Pullar won the mile in 4min 21 3-ssec, Pullar passed R Wyeth (120yds) 150 yards from home, but Wyeth challenged strongly, end the lead was exchanged .again before Pullar broke the tape a yard in front.

CANTERBURY ATHLETIC TEAM FOR WELLINGTON

CHRISTCHURCH, 23rd January. The final choice of members to complete the athletic team, which will represent Canterbury at the annual interprovincial contest against Wellington, to be held at Wellington next Saturday, was made after further trials to-night The following have been added to the team: Senior 100 yards and 200 yards. C. S. Barrell; 440 yards and relay, H McCasky; high jump, R. G. Stead; 220 yards and 440 yards hurdles, N. E. Lane; junior 440 yards and 880 yards, L. Hay; 880 yards and mile, D. Shaw; women’s 75 yards and 100 yards, L. Boanas.
