ALTERATION IN CONSTRUCTION OF DAM TO BE MADE TEMPORARY DAM FOR IMMEDIATE REQUIREMENTS “NO DELAY IN NELSON SUPPLY” j ___ Speaking to a “Mail” representative Mr W. T. Strand, of the Hume Pipe Co., stated that work was being resumed on the Cobb hydro-electric scheme after the Christmas vacation. The tunnel, which will convey the water from the Cobb through a mountain to its fall of some 1800 feet to the power house will be pushed on with as rapidly as possible and the pipes for the pipe line to convey the water were being constructed. In regard to the dam. Mr Strand said there were alterations in the design and construction of the dam to be made, but the supply of hydro-electric power for Nelson and district would not be delayed. A temporary dam would be constructed, and the plans for this were being prepared. Mr Strand added that Mr Hume personally had taken great interest in the v orks and in addition he was now on his way to Singapore, and then Canada and the United States and would purchase plant for the mining and manufacture of asbestos goods. It was his intention to form a subsidiary company for the development of that particular work and a very considerable industry was being arranged for now.
