MOTUEKA

METHODIST CHURCH PRESENTATION TO ORGANIST fFrom Our Own Correspondent! A large number of church members, Sunday School pupils and teachers met on Saturday evening at the Methodist Hall for the purpose of showing their appreciation, in a tangible form, of the services rendered to the church by Mrs Kerr (nee Miss Nancy Quayle), who prior to her marriage recently, was both organist and Sunday School teacher. Mr E. S. Wratt presided, in the absence of the Rev. C. V. Utting; and proceedings commenced with the singing of a hymn and prayer. The various games, organised by Mr N. Cozens, were very much enjoyed, also the vocal items contributed. Mrs W. Pierce sang “My Garden”, Mrs J. Boyce “Sincerity”, and Mr John Woodley “Cherry Ripe”. Mr M. Cresswell gave a reading from “A Letter from a Self-Made Merchant to His Son.” Mrs Wesney played the accompaniments and Mrs J. Boyce supplied music for the games.

During an interval Mr L. Cowin spoke in appreciation of Mrs Kerr’s services to the Sunday School. She had, he said, come to Sunday School when quite a small child and had been an efficient scholar and later a capable teacher and also the organist for the Sunday School. She had conscientiously carried out her duties; and he hoped that the influence for good she had had over the pupils would continue through the years to come.

Mr Wratt extended thanks to Mrs Kerr for her work in the interests of the church, in the capacity of organist during the last seven years, and voiced the appreciation of all members, and pupils for the way in which she had always willingly officiated both at Church and Sunday School and at the anniversary services. He extended to Mr and Mrs Kerr best wishes for their future happiness and expressed the hope that their association with the Motueka Methodist Church would continue to be maintained.

Mr Wratt then asked Mrs Kerr to accept a handsome silver teapot and jug as a mark of appreciation from the congregation and members of the choir and a token of love from the Sunday School pupils. Mr and Mrs Kerr were, at this juncture, accorded musical honours.

In returning thanks for the kind remarks and the beautiful gift Mrs Kerr said that her association with the church and Sunday School had been of a very happy nature. She had not realised how the years were passing, the time had been so pleasant and she had enjoyed her work. In concluding she gave her assurance that she would continue her association with the church.

After the presentation a delicious supper was dispensed and a very happy evening terminated with the pronouncing of the Benediction.
