LEAGUE COUNCIL
CLOSING SESSION RESOLUTIONS REGARDING SPAIN AND CHINA [U.P.A.—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright] (Received 21st January, 11.0 a.m.) GENEVA, 20th January. Mr R. S. Butler announced that Britain through the Red Cross and similar organisation would distribute food and other supplies to 2.000.000 Spanish refugees, not asking other Governments represented on the League Council to co-operate. The closing session of the council adopted resolutions respecting Spain and China. The first declared that the commission’s investigations into bombings in Republican Spain showed that in certain cases air attacks had been directed either intentionally or negligently against civilian populations, and condemned the methods as contrary to the conscience of mankind and international law.
The second detailed resolutions already adopted regarding the co-ordina-tion of assistance for China, reffiarmed its moral support and avoidance of any action which would weaken China’s powers of resistance.
Mr W J. Jordan (New Zealand) in a brief declaration deplored the cruelties of aerial bombardments.
Dr. Wellington Koo (China) in a statement said the resolution was unsatisfactory to the Chinese Government.
