Universal are pleased enough with Vincent Price’s first film appearance opposite Constance Bennett in “Service de Luxe” to be considering him as Danielle Darrieux’s next leading man. * * * * Mickey Rooney’s father, Joe Yule, an old-time vaudevillian, will make his movie debut as Clark Gable’s partner, a song and dance man, in “Idiot’s Delight.” Joe has been in the theatre all his life, and taught Mickey all he knows, first taking him on to the stage at the age of eighteen months. & Claude Rains will play the shopkeeper in the film version of Charles Dickens’ “Old Curiosity Shop.” * * # * Salka Viertel has been assigned to script ‘Madame Curie” to star Greta Garbo. * * # * “Love Affair,” starring Charles Boyer and Irene Dunne, is ready for production.
Hedy Lamarr will make her next screen appearance opposite Spencer Tracy in “New York Cinderella.” M.-G.-M. was anxious to co-star her with Clark Gable in “New Orleans,” but that will have to wait until Gable finishes his many other assignments. Fannie Brice will have a comedy role in the new film. * * * * The Screen Actors’ Guild has just put in a ruling that all actors earning less than a thousand dollars a week must punch the time clock. * * * * William Powell, now fully recovered in health, has signed a new contract with Metro. His first picture will be with Myrna Loy in a return of the “Thin Man.” V ¥ ¥ Back ? n Hcllywood, where he has just commenced work upon “In Old Sante Fe,” is H B. Warner, veteran English character actor. Mr Warner has just returned from a visit to England, where he starred in “Our Fighting Navy.”
