ELECTRIFICATION PROGRAMME RECORD ACTIVITY DURING YEAR IBritißh Official Wirelessl RUGBY, 29th December. During the yea rthere has been record activity regarding the electrification of British railways. In the home counties the underground and tube railway extensions, linked with main line developments, represent an importtant feature of this work. The Southern Railway recently opened a new section which has completed the electrification of the London-Ports-mouth and Portsmouth-Brighton lines. The Southern Railway, which now has the largest electrified suburban system in the world, will to-morrow complete another important stage in its development with the formal 'opening of the new electrified sections of the line linking Reading, Ascot, Aldershot and Guildford. These sections complete the electrification of the outer suburban acea of the Southern Railway, and the 43 route miles involved bring the total electrified track of the railway to 655 route miles.
