WAIMEA’S SUCCESSFUL CHALLENGE

NELSON BEATEN BY SIX WICKETS GAME CONCLUDED YESTERDAY The Waimea Association representative cricket team beat Nelson by six wickets in the Newman Shield match which concluded at the Park yesterday afternoon after a very intersting game in which over 1200 runs were scored. When Waimea commenced their second innings they required 100 runs to win and that total was secured with a loss of four wickets. All the batsmen were very careful and scoring was slow. J Newman bowled seven maiden overs out of ten. However, the runs mounted gardually and D. Max and M. Jenkins were at the wickets when the necessary runs were shown on the board.
