Below on the left is a picture showing how the huge new Cunard-White Star liner, Queen Elizabeth, will appear when completed in 1940. Ihe vessel was launched by Queen Elizabeth on 27th September at Clydebank. 1030 feet long over all, the liner will have a gross tonnage of 84,000, compared with 81,235 tons of the Queen Mary. Next is the Cunard-White Star Line’s new Atlantic service vessel, Mauretania, which was launched from Messrs Cammell and Laird’s Yard at Birkenhead on 28th July. The largest merchant vessel ever built in an English yard, she bears the name made famous by the Atlantic blue riband holder which was scrapped last year. Below: Mr Neville Chamberlain acknowledges the cheers of the crowds in Downing Street during the recent crisis. On 25th May His Majesty presented new Colours to the 2nd Battalion Grenadier Guards, of which he is Colonel-m-Chief. He inspected the men in the grounds of Buckingham Palace where the centre picture was taken. The Lo.ours bear 34 battle honours. Next is the great statue of Britannica, erected at Boulogne to mark the landing of the British Expeditionary Force in 1914. It was unveiled in July.
