At the Motueka Cricket Ground, yesterday morning in fine weather and with an excellent wicket, the Wellington touring team commenced it* match against the Motueka representatives. Motueka opened the batting with B. Smith and Les. Sixtus and the partnership produced 37 runs before the first wicket fell. However the second wa» dismissed at 39. The next four batsmen were quickly disposed of by G. Heid for an increase of only one run I in the total. With 40 on the board R. Holdaway took over and the local representatives j settled down to steady batting, the j last man being dismissed a* 110. The main contributors were R. Holdaway 30, Les Sixtus 24. G. Herd took eight wickets for 27 Wellington’s effort produced 132, giving the visitors a lead of 22 run* on the first innings. R. Morgan gave valuable assistance with a 51, the next best individual score being 18 by R. Allen. The bowling honours were shared by E. Bisley and R. Holdaway, who took four for 33 and three for 26 respectively. At stumps Motueka were in their second innings and had lost two wickets for 9 runs.
