CENTRED AT BURGOS ORGANISED MILITARY UPRISING NIPPED IN THE BUD . U PA.—Hv Electric Telegraph —Copyright I (Received 22nd December, 9.40 a.m.) LONDON, 21st December. The British United Press Association’s correspondent at Hendaye discloses another anti-Franco plot centred at Burgos. It is reported that 765 were arrested. Several officers, including two Colonels and one Major were executed. It was a sequel to raids throughout the city on the 3rd December rounding up the plotters who were organising a military uprising to overthrow Franco. All the officers involved were executed.
FRONTIER ZONE ARRESTS (Received 22nd December, 10.55 a.m.) LONDON, 21st December. Franco's news agency in London says that reports that the revolt was centred at Burgos are not true, and are based on the fact that there have been numerous arrests at the frontier zone for smuggling and other illegalities. A message from Paris, however, says it is learned from a most reliable source that the revolt was well-planned and broke out in the garrisons of Saragossa, Segovia, Pamplona, Soria and several other cities in Franco’s Spain. Over a thousand officers and non-commissioned officers have been arrested.
