DUNEDIN POWER EXTENSION
TO COST £108,772 i United Pirw A*w«ciaM<H<t DUNEDIN. 20th December. The City Council last night approved of important extensions to the Waipori power works, including construction of a new 5000-foot tunnel, and the installation of two 3000 k.w. units at a cost of £108,772. Mr Cameron, chairman of the power committee, stated that the most cogent reason for proceedings was that the engineer feared a power shortage in 1940-41. The Government had the right in an emergency to discontinue power supply to them. He was convinced that the Government would welcome this move to extend their own source of power. For one thing it was possible that with bigger resources the council might be able to help the Government out sometimes.
