DUE TO RETIRE
MAJOR-GENERAL DUIGAN If mien Pres* Assur-iai foul DUNEDIN. 20th December. In March next Major-General J. E. Duigan. D. 5.0., N.Z.S.C., Chief of the General Staff of the New Zealand Defence Forces, is due to retire. When the Minister of Defence, the Hon. F. Jones, was approached and asked if Major-General Duigan would definitely retire, and who would be likely to replace him. the Minister stated that the whole question was one for Cabinet consideration. Asked if Major-General Duigan’s term of service would be extended, the Minister was also unable to make an announcement. Whether MajorGeneral Duigan would retire or whether his term would be extended was a matter yet to be considered, said Mr Jones. His services might be retained, he said.
