NN vtli the approach of the Auckland Summer Meeting there was a lot of interesting work at Ellerslie this morning on the course proper, on which the poles were 45 feet out. The weather was fine though very windv and ilie course was in excellent order. There were some good trials, those to impress most being Marie’s Acre and Tooiey Street, over half a mile; Konneta and High Caste, over five furlongs; and Stretto, over seven furlongs. The Cup candidates Mazir and Padishah registered a good effort over a mile Good Passage strode over six furlongs in lmiu 23 3-ssec, and was going well within he.self at the end. Over a similar distance Trench Fight took linin 24 4-5 sec. hut he was 'inder restraint throughThe Railway Handicap candidate Paper Slipper hit out freely while running five turlongs in lmin 7 3-ssec, the first two furlongs in 25 2-ssec. Defaulter was doing his work comfortably alongside Dictate at the end of six furlongs in lmin 20sec, the last three furlongs in 33 4-ssec.
