NN vtli the approach of the Auckland Summer Meeting there was a lot of interesting work at Ellerslie this morning on the course proper, on which the poles were 45 feet out. The weather was fine though very windv and ilie course was in excellent order. There were some good trials, those to impress most being Marie’s Acre and Tooiey Street, over half a mile; Konneta and High Caste, over five furlongs; and Stretto, over seven furlongs. The Cup candidates Mazir and Padishah registered a good effort over a mile Good Passage strode over six furlongs in lmiu 23 3-ssec, and was going well within he.self at the end. Over a similar distance Trench Fight took linin 24 4-5 sec. hut he was 'inder restraint throughThe Railway Handicap candidate Paper Slipper hit out freely while running five turlongs in lmin 7 3-ssec, the first two furlongs in 25 2-ssec. He is in fine Gav Son, alter running his first three furlongs in 40 4-saec, was going comfortably at the conclusion of seven furlongs i i limn 35 l-ssec. This three-year-old is ia tip-top order. Mazir and Padishah were companions over a mile and a quarter, run in 2rnin 15 1 -6see. The last seven furlongs took lmin 32 3-ssec and the final half-mile 54 3-5 sec. Mazir had a slight advantage at. the finish, but Padishah was going particularly well over the last stage of the gallop. Kelly ran a. mile hi lmin 45 2-ssec, the last seven furlongs in lmin 31 415 s<v and the final half-mile in 5.3 2-ssec. Ho was going well at the end and pulled up all right. Defaulter was doing his work comfortably alongside Dictate at the end of six furlongs in lmin 20sec, the last three furlongs in 33 4-ssec. 'i he best sever: furlongs of the morning was credited to Stretto, who ran right away from Philcourt and completed the distance in lmin 30 4-ssec. Stretto ran her first half-mile iu 49 4-ssec and

the last six furlongs in lmin 18sec. Willie Win occupied lmin 37sec for seven furlongs after taking 40 2-ssec fur tHe first three furlongs. Marie’s Acre and La Vie reeled off half a mile in 50 4-osee, the last three'furlongs taking 38 The best live furlongs of the morning was credited to the Great Northern Foal Stakes candidates Konneta and High Caste. They ran the first two furlongs in 23 4-ssee, Konneta being then about tour lengths in front, but High Caste was almost on terms with her at the finish, the full distance taking lmin 3 1-5 sec. After running his first three furlongs in 3>3 3-ssec, ( ourtcraft was kept going well within himself. Lutanist was not bustled run half a mile in 54sec. Over a similar distance Tooiey Street registered 50 4-ssec, his time being equal to the best ot the morning. Coronation was timed to run the last si ; of seven furlongs in lmin 18 l-ssec.
