CAMPAIGN ON FOREIGN ISSUE li P A.—By Electric Telegraph Copynebtl LONDON, 13th December. An important by-election campaign in Kinross and West Perthshire on the foreign issue is in full swing, with nominations yesterday leaving a straight fight between the Duchess of Atholl (Independent) and W. McNair Snadden (Conservative). Mr Winston Churchill, in a letter to the Duchess, said: “You are no doubt opposed by many Conservatives as loyal and patriotic as yourself, but the fact remains that outside our island, your defeat would be relished by the enemies of Great Britain and of freedom throughout the world.” A message on 20th November stated that the Kinross and West Perth Unionist Association decided to 273 votes to 167 to seek a candidate in place of the Duchess of Atholl, whose Liberal views j were a thorn in the side of many Conservatives. It was stated that she intended to stand as an Independent.
