PURCHASE URGED BY MINISTER

RADIO APPEALS TO BE MADE I CAMPAIGN WELL UNDER WAY [B.v Telegraph—Special to “The Mail”] CHRISTCHURCH, This Day. “The campaign urging the purchase l of New Zealand-made goods is well under way and I am confident that its importance is fully recognised by the public and that they will respond to the appeal in a practical maner," said , the Hon. D. G. Sullivan, Minister of Industries and Commerce, in an inter- 1 view to-day. “The Governor-General, the Prime Minister and myself have already made j radio appeals and these are being followed by radio addresses by other members of Cabinet, Labour .organisations, manufacturers’ associations and others. 1 In addition large posters are being ex-1 hibited on hoardings in the main j centres and thousands of smaller posters are being distributed through the | medium of manufactuers’ associations, | labour organisations and Government 1 departments to factories, workshops, public works camps, Government j offices, railway stations, etc.” A talkie picture by the Hon. D. G. Sullivan is also being shown in picture theatres giving a message on this subject.

“Every effort is being made to bring the appeal as strongly as possible before every section of the community and I am certain that the appeal will result in a greater appreciation of the goods made in our own factories by our own people and in increased purchases of locally manufactured articles.

“I am especially pleased,” Mr Sullivan said, “with the enthusiastic manner in which the Manufacturers’ Federation, the Federation of Labour and the executive heads of all the great labour organisations have thrown themselves into the campaign. They have made pronouncements, written articles and circularised their members throughout the country, asking for the support of New Zealand industries by the purchase of New Zealand-made goods. This campaign is of very great importance to the welfare of New Zealand at the present time and I sincerely trust that the people will realise that the success of the campaign will have a bearing on the prosperity of the country, the number of jobs available and the position of the overseas funds, etc., and that all will help to the uttermost this Christmas by purchasing New Zealandmade goods.”
