HOPE-RANZAU

WOMEN’S INSTITUTE The monthly meeting of the HopeRanzau branch of the Women’s Institute was held in the Ranzau School when there was quite a good attendance. The pi-esident, Miss Baigent, was in the chair. The motto, “We are born originals, do not let us die copies. Roll Call, “My Favourite Flower,” was well responded to, the rose being the favourite. Three new members were then welcomed and enrolled, Mrs Ford, Mrs D. Max, and Miss L. Max. Mrs Freeman then gave a very good demonstration on lamp shades. Competition results for the three best

blooms, Mi’s Russ, 1; Mrs Ching and Mrs Shirtliff, equal 2. The December meeting was held in fine weather when there was a good attendance . The meeting opened with the Ode and Aspiration. The Roll Call, “A Summer Drink” brought forth some good recipes. Brisk work was done at the sales table which was a “bring and buy.” Instead of a Christmas tree this year it was decided to hold a picnic on Mr A. Eden’s property on lrth January with ice cream and sports, etc., for the children. The president, Miss Baigent, then gave a most interesting demonstration on scarf weaving which all members ai*e most anxious to learn. An exchange of Christmas gifts between members (costing not more than Is 6d) was the competition and resulted Mrs Webby, 1; Mrs Shirtliff, 2. Three best blooms, Mrs Ching 1 • Mrs Shirtliff, 2. Afternoon tea was served, Mrs Thorn then presented five birthday posies and so another pleasant afternoon came to a close.
