STRUCK BY LIGHTNING

COUNTRY HOUSE DAMAGED RADIO SPLIT IN TWO Lightning struck the residence of Mr H. Lamont, of Wairere, near Piopio, about seven o’clock on Tuesday evening, shattering one wall and destroying the window and sash of a bedroom occupied by'an employee, Mr Dixon. A radio set owned by Mr Dixon was split in half, one portion being hurled 12ft across the room. All the wallpaper in the room was burned and clothes hanging near the radio were badly scorched. The house was filled with smoke from burning cables. All the including Mr and Mrs Lamont’s three children, were dazed by lightning, but no serious injury was suffered. Mr Dixon, who usually sits alongside his radio after tea, was called by his employer into the sitting room just before the lightning struck, thus escaping possible serious injury.
