H.M.S. ACHILLES

LEAVES FOR ENGLAND ON FRIDAY NEW COMMODORE • United Press Association l AUCKLAND, 29th November. final preparations for the departure of H.M.S. Achilles on Friday morning for England are being made. The cruiser will leave the Devoiiport Naval Base at 10.30 and will not be .seen again in Auckland until about May next. Her departure involves the transfer of the command of the sea-going squadron from Commodore I. G. Glennie, who is taking the Achilles to England, to Cap- ; tain J. W. Rivctt-Carnac, who will asj sume the rank of commodore. When Commodore Glennie transfers his command to ! Captain Rivett-Caruac, the cruiser Leandor w ill automatically become the flagship i ol the squadron. An outstanding feature of the change will be that it lias to he made in the absence of Captain Rivett-Caruac and his ship, since the Leander is engaged on a special cruise in the Pacific. Because of this none of the usual ceremony which accompanies the transfer of the commodore’s flag will be possible and it is likely that signals exchanged by radio between the two ships will be the only evidence of the change.
