NEW YEAR GIFTS FOR TROOPS
DRIVE IN JAPAN TOKIO, 28th November. It is announced that patriotic organisations in a recent house-to-house collection in Tokio of old woollens, netted more than 350,000 kilogrammes, bringing in 170,000 yen to be devoted to New Year gifts for soldiers. Meanwhile a score of high officials of the National Federation of Young Men’s Associations have resigned because of a scandal involving speculations from 600,000 yen realised from the sale of various scrap materials collected. INCREASED ARMS PRODUCTION (Received 29th November, 9.40 a.m.) TOKIO. 28th November. Mr Tojoh, Under-Secretary for War. told armament manufacturers that the English, French and Russian foreign policies especially Britain’s in aiding China, had necessitated increased Japanese arms production.
