MAORI GIRL IN BURNING HOUSE rOui'.ed Press Association! GISBORNE. This Day. The ten-year-old daughter of Nehe Tu. a Maori settler of Puha, narrowly escaped a shocking death when fire razed her home in the early hours of this morning. The father believed that all members of the family were safe and returned to the burning house to salvage the bedding. He found the girl snugly sleeping under a pile of bedding and rescued her in the nick of time, diving through a window as the fire spread rapidly. The building was totally destroyed.
