TRAGIC DEATH

The death occurred in tragic circutn- , stances on Saturday evening of Percival j Starkey, aged 45, citrus orchardist, Wai- | mapu, and formerly secretary of the Tau- i ranga Citrus Association, Ltd. Constables Hodge and J-ockie visited Starkey about a certain matter. At the! inquest the police stated that on arrival ' at, Starkey’s place he invited them inside. 1 Fie preceded Constable Lockie along the veranda and entered a doorway. Then a j shot, was heard. The police entered the doorway and found Starkey lying on the floor with the top of his head blown off ! anrl a discharged shotgun lying beside the body. Dr. Frazerhurst said it was apparent that (lie injuries were self-inflicted. The coroner, Mr C. T. McFarlaue, returned a verdict that Starkey died as a result ol a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
