STRONG CRITICISM

BY UNITED SOUTH AFRICAN TARTY LONDON, 25th November. The Johannesburg correspondent of the “Daily Telegraph” reports that Mr R. Stuttaford, Minister of the Interior, attended a private meeting of the United Party, at which strong criticism was voiced of the visit to Germany by the Defence Minister, Mr O. Pirow, especially because it came at a time when the whole world was shocked by Germany’s treatment of Jews. Mr Stuttaford promised to convey the views of the meeting to the Premier, General Hertzog. Other parties are also protesting. The Nationalist Party fears that Mr Pirow may compromise the Union’s claim to South-West Africa by supporting the British Goverment’s efforts to retain Tanganyika. The Nationalists are not opposed to the return of Tanganyika, believing that if Germany secured it she would abandon her claim to South-West Africa.
