EARTHQUAKE LOANS
REMISSION OF INTEREST REQUEST FROM HAWKES BAY A request for further relief in respect to liawkes Bay earthquake rehabilitation loans was made to the Minister of Finance, the Hon. W. Nash, by a deputation representing the Napier Hospital Board, liawkes Ray Rivers Board and Wairoa local bodies. Payment of interest has been remitted for five years, and the Minister said that he intended to ask the Cabinet’s approval to a further concession. All payments of interest and principal would, under his proposal, be applied to the repayment of capital. Thus the loans, instead of continuing for 30 years, would be repaid in 18 years.
