RETURNED SOLDIERS’ ASSOCIATION

QUARTERLY MEETING COMBINED GALA AT KAITERITERI [From Our Own Correspondent) At the quarterly meeting of the Returned Soldiers’ Association held on Saturday evening, a deputation from the Kaiteriteri Domain Board, consisting ot Messrs F. A. Hamilton (chairman) and B T. Rowling (secretary), waited on the Association with a proposal that the two bodies combine in a gala at Kaiteriteri oa Boxing Day, 26th December. In introducing the subject, Mr Hamilton stated that recently an area of appioximately 30 acres, extending from the skyline to the water's edge, had been acquired by the Board, with considerable assistance from the Government. It was felt by the Board that some considerable effort should be made, now that this pro. perty has become public property, to raise funds for the purpose of effecting permanent improvements. Mr B. T. Rowling stated that the Returned Soldiers’ Association was one of the strongest organisations in the district and it was felt that with the large following both parties possessed a successful function could be arranged with considerable benefit to both societies. The deputation then withdrew and the matter was discussed by the Association. FUNCTION ON BOXING DAY It was unanimously resolved that the Motueka R.S.A. accede to the request of the Domain Board to hold the proposed function on Boxing Day. A committee consisting of Messrs G. F. Smith, H. Webb, J. l’ocklington, G. Manifold and J. Goodyer, was appointed to confer with the representatives of the Kaiteriteri Domain Board at the Riwaka School on Tuesday at 8 p.m. During the course of the discussion Mr W. Ovens, secretary of the Safe Bathing Society, said that his society would give every possible assistance to the gala at Kaiteriteri as it was realised that the Motueka beach was not in a fit condition for such a function, owing to the fact that tne work of construction of new baths had not been completed. The secretary, Mr Goodyer, was asked to write to the Safe Bathing Society, thanking them for their kindly gesture.
