The Secretary for the Colonies, Mr MacDonald, sent a telegram to the Governor of tlie Windward Islands conveying His Majesty’s regret at the Santa Lucia landslide and sympathy with the sufferThe sympathy of the House of Commons was expressed by Mr MacDonald in answering a question. He informed the House that the Governor estimated that about 50 people had been killed and 40 injured. He had asked the Governor for his views on the material assistance which might be required for the silfferA report from Santa Lucia, British West Indies, published yesterday, stated that a series of avalanches caused whole mountains to split up and poured a blanket of wet clay 20 feet deep over large areas. Continuous slides, moving with great rapidity, poured down over whole villages before the population could escape.
