SOUTH ISLAND POULTRY ASSOCIATION

ANNUAL REPORT PRESENTED INCREASE IN MEMBERSHIP fUnited Press Association 1 DUNEDIN, 24th November. The thirty-ninth annual meeting of the South Island (N.Z.) Poultry. Pigeon and Canary Association commenced this evening. The president (Mr G. H. Bradford) presided. The annual report stated that 28 societies were affiliated with the association —four more than in 1937. The shows during the year, right through the South Island, were up considerably in the entries a very encouraging feature. The public had supported the fixtures better than for some years and the association could, with confidence, predict a good show season for 1939. The number of South Island championships allotted to 1938 shows was 108. and in lb’ there were no entries or no award made, on account of the Waiau and 'Vestport shows not being held. Eight championships were cancelled, which w'as unfortunate, and out of the balance of 84. the number of championship certificates won was 79 a very high percentage.

The balance sheet showed that the receipts during the year totalled .£275 tls Gd and the expenditure £72 18s lOd, leaving a credit balance of £202 7s Bd.

The Blenheim Homing Pigeon Club was granted affiliation with the association, and the Kaitangata Club’s application for reaflilialion was granted.
