MARKETING METHODS COMPARED
NEW ZEALAND AND AUSTRALIA Some further observations have been made by Major J. R. King, General Manager of the Producers’ Co-op. Distributing Society (Australia) on New Zealand marketing in the United Kingdom. The quotation is from the “Primary Producer” of l]>th November: “Comparing the marketing arrangement* of Australia and New Zealand,” Major King continued, “I was much impressed with the efficient way in which the New Zealand Dairy Department handles the position in London. They continue their control of the butter right to delivery from the cold stores, and therefore have a hold over the selling agents which we in Australia do not possess. “In my opinion the firm hold that New Zealand this season had on its butter has put many thousands of pounds into the pockets of Australian producers. Our marketing position is altogether too loose to suit me, and it is my intention at the next Dairy Board meeting to bring forward the necessity of having measures instituted to correct the position. “New Zealand had also cut out all c.i.f. and f.o.b. selling, and if Australian producers were to get the full benefit of the market, Australia would have to follow suit.”
