DISCUSSION ON TOURS MEETING OF COUNCIL TEAM FOR SOUTH AFRICA (United Press Association! WELLINGTON, This Day. Considerable discussion took place at a meeting of the New Zealand Rugby Council on the matter of tours. Mr S. S. Dean was in the chair and the New Zealand selector, Mr E. McKenzie, was present by invitation. A proposition was made by Dr. G. J. Adams that a New Zealand team be sent on a tour throughout the Dominion next season playing a series of matches, the final one of which would be versus The Rest, the idea being to give the New Zealand selector every opportunity of getting the best team away for South Africa in 1940. After a long discussion it was finally decided that such a tour next season, under all the circumstances, was impracticable. It was resolved that the New Zealand team for South Africa be selected next year, and that the chosen players be subjected to an examination by medical officers a month before the team’s departure in 1940. The team, it was pointed out, would have to leave in April, or early in May. ENGLISH 'VARSITY TEAM Information of a favourable nature! was received from English sources re-1 garding the proposed visit of a uni- [ versity team from England to New Zea- I land next season. Official word from the English Rugby Union is awaited. The matter of a visit by a Fijian team was discussed and the executive was empowered to submit a report giving the proposed itinerary and estimated cost.
