PUBLIC INQUIRY
IMMEDIATE REPORT ABOUT BEACON (Received 26th October, 11.20 a.m.) CANBERRA, This Day. Mr Thorby, Defence Minister, announced that a public inquiry would be held by the Air Accidents Investigation Committee into the crash. This is the first time that the Government has agreed to have an investigation into the cause of an accident made in public. Mr Thorby said that he had called for an immediate report about the short-wave radio navigation beacon which has never been operated. He added: “If I have to bear any responsibility I will not shirk it.”
