An amendment to the Amendment Act. 1936. dealing with the payment of wages for holidays is included in the Statutes Amendment Bill, which was introduced in the House of Representatives yesterday and read a first time. i | In the principal Act it is provided that payment for holidays must be made to all persons who have been ; employed in the factory in the case of I Christmas Day, Boxing Day. New Year’s Day, Good Friday, or Easter Monday at 1 any time during the previous fort--1 night, and in the case of any other j whole holiday, for at least four days; during the week ending on the day on i | which the holiday occurs. • , 1 This provision is now repealed by, ' the amendment, which stipulates that. i payment of wages for these holidays i must be made to all persons who have . been employed at any time during the j ' fortnight ending on the day on which ! the holiday occurs. The clause cover- ! ing the person who works for more ; than one employer is retained, and j there is an additional clause which i provides that the employment of a j (casual worker merely for the purpose j of baking, or preparing for baking, food to meet the public demand resulting from the observance of any of : the above holidays shall not be cover,cd by the holiday payment provisions.
