AFRICAN JUNGLE LIFE

The first motion picture of the life, dangers and rituals of parts of the Belgian Congo, never before penetrated by a white man, will be released by Universal studios. It is the record of the Armand Denis-Leila Roosevelt expedition, and now is in the final stages of editing. The expedition was sponsored officially by the Belgian Government. Its purpose was to make a lasting record of the few remaining untouched and inaccessible sections of the African jungle before they disappear. Under the direction of Denis, and with Frank Buck’s cameraman, Leroy Phelps, the expedition returned with an exciting account of jungle life, never before screened. Denis made “Goona Goona” and directed “Wild Congo.” Thrilling sequences filmed include a

wild elephant capture. There are weir rituals of almost rapturous frenzy, pigmies building a bridge across a stream without going near the water, and walking on lava that bursts into llame at the slightest touch Leila Roosevelt, in private life Mrs Denis, figured prominently recently following a journey around the world in a truck with another young woman as her sole companion. She is a relative of Theodore Roosevelt, and of the President and Mrs Franklin D. Roosevelt.
