OUR YOUNG ATHLETES
STRETCH LIKE A CAT—AND GROW TALL! If you want to grow tall, you must try to keep stretched while you are sitting, standing and walking. Stretching up and looking ahead at your own height makes you feel much more confident and sure of yourself. It makes you look it, too! Many people judge others by the way they hold themselves, and if you keep looking proudly ahead, and not down at the ground, it gives a good impression. Very often a business man judges his employees by the way they hold themselves, so it will help you all round. Every morning, before you get up, stretch as much as you can. Try to make yourself the whole length of the
bed! Then spring out and have another long stretch. Raise the arms above the head, breathe in, and s-t-r-e-t-c-h! It gives you a fine feeling, doesn’t it! WATCH THE CAT! Then do some exercise—like a cat does when it wakes after a doze. Go down on to hands and knees, and, keeping the arms straight, stretch the other way, trying to put the head and chest on the floor, and stretch back as far as possible. Breathe out during this part of the movement. Repeat the whole exercise at least a dozen times as soon as you get up—and it won’t do you any harm if you practise it in the evenings as well!
