DOG TRIALS

WAIMEA COLLIE CLUB A SUCCESSFUL FIXTURE I Fair-weather favouied the Wainiea ; Collie Club for their trials. The fixture | was most successful The judge commented most favourably on the work which was of a high standard especially in the huntaway classes. Eighty entries were received lor the lour events, a slight falling off from previous years. In class 1 Straight Hunt there were ■ only 6 points separating the first twelve dogs, and only 2 points between the first five. Mr J. Borlaee with Ted Ist ami Pat 2nd is to be congratulated. Class 2 "Long Full"'saw another close finish between A. Giles' "Ramp” and «J. H. Meads Bill Daily. Ramp wining with half point in his favour. Seven dogs were within 6 points of the winner. Some excellent work was seen in class 3 Zig Zag Hunt, A. Giles’ Speck having a margin of lj points over F. Eden's Nan, eight dogs being within 6 points.of the winner out of 18 starters. Rex Mead's Hendy was successful in class 4 "Head and Yard” with 60 points J Borlace’s Dew 59£ points 2nd and R. Kinzett's Mac 58 points 3rd. The course and grounds were in excellent condition and the management of the meeting left nothing to be desired. The attendance of the public was large and enthusiastic. The sheep used were halfbreds supplied by Mr J. H. Mead of Hiwipango and proved good sheep for hard work. The luncheon booth under the management of the local branch of the W.D.F.U. was well patronised by the public. Mr L. D. Cameron a well known judge and competitor of Masterton officiated as judge and his decisions gave every satisfaction. At the conclusion of the trials the president Mr Martin presented the trophies and spoke in appreciative terms of the assistance he had received from the committee. The thanks of the club are due to the ladies, donors of special prizes, Mr Mead for use of sheep, and all others who helped to make the trials a success.
