WOMEN’S DIVISION

OF NEW ZEALAND FARMERS’ UNION ANNUAL MEETING AT MURCHISON The seventh annual meeting of the Murchison branch of the Women's Division of the Farmers’ Union was held in the Murchison Rest Rooms. Those present were Mesdames Baigent (president), Todd, French, Scott, Rait. Nalder, O’Rourke, Oxnan. Watt. N. Lynch. !R. Peacock. Thurlow, N. Peacock, j Thomson, and E. Hill, Misses French j and Nalder. Apologies were received from Mesdames Best, Birket, L. Hutchi ings and Mrs McCaa sen. The meeting was opened with the j reading of the Aspirations and the minutes of the pievious annual meeting, j These were confirmed. | The balance sheet showed a credit | balance of £22 12s 2£d which was conj sidered satisfactory, j The president's report showed a very | satisfactory year and one full of in- ! terest —during which eleven general, five valley, two combined valley and three executive meetings had been held. During the year, Mrs Drake. Dominion president, visited Murchison and was accompanied by Mrs Forsyth, Dominion vice president. Mrs Drake's visit had been greatly appreciated and her address was inspiring to all. At the 6th birthday held in August, Mrs Holdyard, the Nelson Provincial President, and Mrs Robinson, president of the Stoke branch, and the Women’s Division representative on the Cripple Children Committee were present as guests. Several cases of sickness and emergency had been helped in the district under the housekeeping scheme. A junior branch of the Division had been formed and had proved to be a very enthusiastic one. The sale of tea and sandwiches had been continued on sale days until a complaint had been lodged and now the teas were given to the men.

The president expressed her thanks to the vice-presidents, secretary and committee and all members for their loyalty and ready help and response to the demands made on their time. Thanks were also expressed to the Nelson “Evening Mail.”, Mr McLaren for auditing the balance sheet. Mr Mockett for use of his rooms. Messrs Dalget.v Ltd., for the use of their offices on sale days, and to the members of the Farmers’ Union for their assistance and ready co-operation throughout the year. On her retirement from the office of president. Mrs Baigent extended to the incoming president, her best wishes and hoped her term of office would be as happy and as full of interest as hers I had been. Mrs Baigent was accorded a hearty vote of thanks for her services to the Division and she was presented with ] a shoulder spray. Miss French (secretary) was also accorded a vote of thanks and presented with a shoulder spray. The points prize for the best flower throughout the j'ear was won by Miss E. French—a handsome piece of crystal. kindly donated by Mrs D. OxThe election of officers for the ensuing year resulted as follows:—President. Mrs J.
