PRISONER ESCAPES

[United Press Association] CHRISTCHURCH, 2nd May. While working in the Paparua prison quarry this afternoon a man who had been sentenced for theft managed to elude the guard and get away. When last seen at about 3.30 p.m. he was making toward the Harewood district. The usual search methods were adopted, but late last night he had not been found. The man is described as being five feet four inches tall, of medium build, with dark <

complexion, brown hair turning grey and with blue eyes. When he left he was wearing a grey coat, white felt hat, blue striped collarless shirt and light trousers. He discarded his boots, which have been found. The Qian’s age is given as 46. This is the second escape mac's from Paparua prison within a month. The last escape was on 12th April from the prison yard, but the man was recap : turecl the following day.
