PORT OF LONDON AUTHORITY
CONSTRUCTION OF BARRAGE ACROSS THAMES INQUIRY SUSPENDED (Britiio Official Wireless) RUGBY, 28th March. The Port of London Authority has suspended the inquiry recently begun into the construction of a barrage across the Thames within the Port of London for the purpose of the creation of a non-tidal waterway through the centre of the metropolis. The inquiry would serve no useful purpose in view of the opinion of the Imperial Defence Committee communicated by the Minister of Transport, Mr E. L. Burgin, that such a barrage would have serious disadvantages and of the Minister’s statement that the Government would therefore be compelled to veto any such project.
