Private cable advice was received in Wellington to-day, states a Press Association message, of the death in Sydney of Mr W. J. Bloomfield, the joint man-aging-director of the Mutual Life and Citizens’ Assurance Company. He was an outstanding figure in the insurance world.
Captain J. F. Spring-Brown, at one time master of the Aorangi and commodore of the Union Steam Ship Coir pany’s fleet, was a passenger in the Awatea which arrived at Auckland on Monday. He will spend about six weeks in the Dominion before he returns to Sydney to become coast pilot on the Empress of Britain when ’t visits Australia and New Zealand.
The Rev E. T. Cox. Mayor of Dunedin, and Mrs Cox, w'ho have spent a few days at Franz Josef Glacier and Nelson, returned to Dunedin by plane this morning via Blenheim and Christchurch.
At the last meeting of the Wellington Education Board the following were among the teaching appointments made: Miss S. L. Pitt (Nelson), assistant. Spring Creek: Mr J. McAllister (Nelson) head teacher Ohiro Bay.
