BOWLS TOURNAMENT
FAIRS CHAMPIONSHIP AND SINGLES PLAY AT DUNEDIN IBy Telegraph Press Association] DUNEDIN, 13th January. Brilliant sunshine and comparatively fast greens made conditions excellent for play in the pairs championship at the New Zealand bowls tournament. The programme comprised post-section play on six greens and two matches in the semi-final stages of the singles.
Interest centred in the singles games between T. Edwards (Temuka) and J. Perrow (Pembroke) and W. A. Bennett (Hastings). Edwards was the only un-j beaten player left in the completition. but lost the eleventh round game against Bennett, and the championship j is now being contested by Edwards, j Bennett. MacGillivray (Roslyn) and G. : C. Claridge (St. Kilda), all one-lifers, j The championship will not be finally decided until next week.
Post-sectional play on the "sudden death” principle left only six pairs in, H. Walker and H. W. Gibson (Dunedin) H. Belcher and E. Longworth (St. Kilda), P. Delargey and P. Munn (Canterbury), J. R. Smith and H. B. Oakley (Elmwood), R. B. Clarke and C. E. Tyrell (Roslyn), and S. J. Sneddon and H. Wilson (Linwood).
