INDUSTRIAL MACHINERY
NEEDS OF NEW ZEALAND MARKET
WARNING TO BRITISH MANUFACTURERS
I United Press Assooiation-H.v Eleetrlo Telegraph—Copy rigatl (Received 16th December. 11.25 a.m.) LONDON, 15th December. A warning to British manufacturers lhat it was often necessary to depart from designs current in the United Kingdom in order to meet the needs of the New Zealand market, is contained in a report on economic and commercial conditions in New Zealand pub-
lished by the Department of Over seas Trade.
The report urges manufacturers to make a special effort to supply industrial machinery. It is doubtful whether openings for industrial machinery in New Zealand have been as assiduously cultivated as the markets for such standardised articles as textiles in China,
The report also cites figures showing Japanese gains at the expense of Britain in respect to cottons, linens, and canvas, and says that as far as price is concerned. British manufacturers appear quite unable to compete with Japan.
