PERSONAL ITEM.

Mr J. H. Phillpot. organist of St. ■Matthew’s Church, Auckland, for the past 33 years, died on Monday, aged 76 years. He was born at Abervalc, Wales, and obtained his first musical appointment at the age of 19 as organist at Barsficld Lane Methodist Church. Stocklon-on-Tccs. Mr Philldol came to the Dominion in 1884 on the second voyage of the old ship Coptic, and Mrs Phillpot. whom he had married in England in 1882, followed three years later. Mr Phillpot was connected with the Savage Club for 14 years, and was organist for ten Masonic lodges under various constU tutions for 46 years, including the Aucfc j land Provincial District Grand Lodg* and the Provincial Grand Lodge of Ireland. lie wrote a considerable amount of music, mainly songs, part songs, anthem, cantatas, and chuich music, and some of his work was published in New Zealand Mr and Mrs Phillpot celebrated their golden wedding on 17'h August, 1932, at their home. Woodward road. Mount Albert. Mr Phillpot is survived by his wife and one daughter, Mrs N. Walker. There are three grandchildren.
