SOCIALISTIC AIMS
VERDICT OF AUSTRALIA NEW ZEALAND’S FUTURE The triumph of the Lyons Government in Australia was one of the greatest in Australian politics, according to Mr Fiank Golc’bcrg. governing director of the Goldberg Advertising Agency. Limited, who arrived by the Mariposa from Sydney. lie said the result was an expression by the public of its dislike of socialistic policies and a disbelief in Labour's dictum (hat if Labour were not returned the country would suffer cc Ascription. He forecast that a day of reckoning awaited New Zealande for its socialistic legislation. “Australians were not hoaxed by Labour’s conscription propaganda in the recent elections.” said Mr Goldberg. “but they accepted it for what it was-, a mere political shift to get votes. The average Australian is both sceptical and apprehensive of socialistic legislation, especially after what tiioy have heard of New Zealand’s experiment.” Many Australian business men anticipated but one result from tiie policy of the New Zealand Labour Government—that New Zealanders would havi to pay dearly for it, he continued, seemed to him that the effects of tlr new legislation were what one might expect for the time being—rising costs everywhere to offset increased spend ing power, and the general impression that there was less unemployment than when the Labour Government came into power. The full effect had not, however, been seen, said Mr Goldberg, and before long the people of New Zealand would have cause to regret the introduction of legislative measures which appeared attractive at first sight, but brought disillusionment in the long run.
