AMATEUR ATHLETICS

ANNUAL REPORT OB 1 MOTUEKA CLUB I From Our Own Correspondent) At the annual meeting of the Molueka Amateur Athletic Club, the president, Mr Harry Manoy, presented the following report:— “As President of the Club I have pleasure in presenting a report of the activities of the Club during the past season. These chiefly centre round the Easter meeting. The visit of the Japanese athletes K. Murakoso and K. Togami of Olympic fame was of special interest, and proved to be an attraction to both the public at large and athletes, Their appearance together with a strong field from Wellington under the management of Mr Dolph Kitto, and competitors from Nelson, ensured the public of unusual entertainment. Assistance was rendered in this connection by local competitors and a strong contingent from Marlborough. Special thanks are due to the Wellington and Marlborough athletes who contributed in so large a measure to the success of our meeting. “Our thanks are again due to the local and outside business people who supported us so nobly in the matter of advertising. It is interesting and very gratifying to note that of those approached none refused to assist. The success of any sports meeting is due in large measure to the efficiency of ground organisation, and I must express a special word of thanks to those on whose shoulders fell this responsibility. Thanks are also due to the supporters of the club who rendered assistance in the matter of billeting visiting athletes. The club and the visitors so accommodated are grateful to their kind hosts, and in this connection I must thank the ladies’ committee for their efforts. “We were fortunate in having the wholehearted co-operation of Mr Vryn Evans, headmaster of the Molueka High School and his staff in the marshalling of a large field of competitors in the school children’s events. A matter for special mention is the uniformed. manner in which the children made their appearance, and when it is co sidered that Mr Evans was a new arrival in the district our thanks are I due to him for hi., organisation. ' “Notwithstanding the usual heavy ex- ! penditure attendant to the visit ol I overseas athletes the finances of the j club are in a satisfactory position. To ; maintain this position care must be exercised in all expenditure."
