ADDINGTON MARKET

SHARP EASING IN PRICES [By Telegraph—Press Association] CHRISTCHURCH, 17th November. Overflow entries were featured at today’s Addington market and there was a sharp easing in all major sections of stock. Fat ewes were down by 4s a head and whethers by about 2s Gd. Fat cattle eased by 20s to 255, bacon pigs by a penny a lb. and porkers by slightly less. Store sheep: More than 1000 wethers from Chatham Islands were included in the entry and these sold at from 17s to 255. Other classes of stores were unattractive. Fat Sheep: About 5500 were penned. Best wethers made to 34s lOd, good 26s !o 30s; best ewes 22s to 265, ordinary 17s to 19s, others 14s to 16s Gd. There was some buying of wethers for export. Fat Cattle: Best cattle sold from £l4 to £l9; medium prime £l2 10s to £l4; best heifers, £9 to £l2 10s; cows, £8 10s to £ll 10s, tops being up to 20s more. Vealers met with a weaker market for practically all sorts, but store cattle showed a slight improvement. The long period of dry weather broke during the sale and this had a brightening effect on the store market. Pigs met with a sharp decline, partly due to the heavy entry and also to the export rate being reduced by a penny. Porkers made 35s 6d to 55s 6d, or an average of from 6i ! d to 7i'd; baconers, £3 2s 6d to £4 4s Gd, or from Gld to 7d. The drop was from 6s to 8s for porkers and 10s to 12s for baconers.
