Radical changes in the administration of lhe Auckland Hospital were recommended to the hospital board by a special committee set up to consider the final points raised last year in a report on the organisation ol Ur institution by Mr G. Grey Campbell, public accountant. Among the suggestions was the appointment of a chief managerial executive tit a high salary and with the abolition of (he office of medical superintendent, at present held by Dr. Craven, and the selection of a director of surgery and director ol medicine. The notices of motion by the chairman were as follows: (1) Th.-’.t those employees of the board who have reached the retiring age or permd ee given three months’ notice of termination of their engagements the board to consider the terms of their retirement at a meeting in committee on 7th December; (2) that the Minister of Health be asked to approve of the appointment of a physician as medical director and a surgeon as surgical director at salaries of £1509 per annum, rising lo £2OOO at the end of one year; (3) that the resolution passed on 29th September, 1936, fixing the salary of the proposed manager-secretary at £I2OO per annum, rising to £ISOO per annum by yearly increments of £IOO, be rescinded, and that the salary be fixed at £ISOO, rising lo £2OOO at the end of one year. The appointment of two radiologists to succeed Dr. W. W. Main at the Auckland hospital at a commencing salary of £IOOO each and increasing by annual increments of £IOO to £I2OO. was approved. Applications arc to be called for the positions in New Zealand, Australia and England.
