FASHION OUTLOOK
NAVY AND WHITE (From our Melbourne Correspondent.) Indications point to a navy and white season. Many shop windows are showing this combination to the exclusion of all else other than tan, o.' which there is an abundance, and beige, which is apparently being used more fo three-quarter length light woollen coats, made on swing lines and having extended shoulders and large patch pockets. Lighter blues are complementary to navy and white, tan and beige. Some places have always been regarded as coat-and-skiit cities, but this year few tailleurs are visi fie, feminine taste running more to frocks and lightweight jacket suits of the bolero, redingote or swing- back types. One of the most exclusive shops is showing a lightweight wool skirt worn with a three-quarter, length swing coat of heavy navy taffetas, with cravat tie finish at the throat and pockets. It is the ultimate in chic. The same shop has a white sheer tailored shirt blouse, with knife-pleated front, a plain Peter Pan collar and fulllength sleeves with wide man-style cuffs and links. One of the larger shops is showing a white sharkskin evening frock, slashed up the skirt at side front to reveal sunray pleated finely stripped navy and white sheer. A nuge red rose is poised at the belt. In fact, outsize in flowers is a feature of many evening frocks. The shops are doing thei. best to induce women to wear on their hats either a huge cabochon oi flowers tight on the forehead secured ivitli bandeau of ribbon or else charming little tulle headdresses made with plent.- of frills.
1 of When the icing is mixed keep it covered mlf with a damp doth. In this way it will Cut keep moist even if it take., hours to ick decorate your cake, and believe me it is better not to attempt an elaborate decoration if you can not spend time on it. When ready to decorate a birthday cake the first thing is to find the exact on centre and mark it. Next measure the ital circumference with a tape measure and oid divide the edge into equal sections and ick mark. Be sure to leave a plain piece in ,-ou the centre if you wish to put an inscripion tion, and plan ahead where you mean to of put the candles, and be sure they are iler evenly spaced. If a very white icing is irm required a squeeze from the blue bag ife. will work wonders.
