Mount Eden, has been nominated by ihe Presbyterian Assembly for the chair of New Testament studies. lie is a member of the well-known i Wellington Presbyterian family. Now j 40 years of aye. he entered Victoria ; University College with a university j entrance scholarship in 1010 and took : his B.A. degree in 1020. the year 1018 , having been spent in war service, in . camp he won a special war senior ; scholarship in philosophy, and in 1021 he took Ins M.A. with first-class hon- ! ours in philosophy. lie pursued his 1 theological studies at New College. Edinburgh, from 1021 to 1024. and his course there was one of great distinction. He had the best all-round record of his year, and won various : prizes, securing in 1024 the honours ; diploma in theology of the United Free 1 Church of Scotland, and Doing awarded ;a Cunningham Fellowship. ! Mr Allan's first charge on his re- ; turn to New Zealand was at Seatoun. Wellington and afterwards for seven years he carried on a very successful ministry at St. Ninian's. Jiiecarton. Christchurch. Some two years ago : he was called to Mount Eden to succeed the late Rev. E. .J. Tipler. He has been doing very valuable work there, and has been taking an increasingly prominent part in Presbytery i affairs, notably as convener of ils | broadcasting commiHee. He has also j made valuable contributions to the work of the assembly and prepared a report of outstanding importance on marriage and divorce.
