DROUGHT BROKEN
HEAVY FALLS ON WEST COAST [By Telegraph Press Association! WELLINGTON. This Day. Information received by the Meteorological Office shows that last night’s rainfall was almost general throughout Hie Dominion, with heavy falls on the West Coast of tiie South Island, also about Cook Strait and in the far south. It is anticipated that real relief will be afforded even in areas which suffered most from the dry spell, especially as there are prospects of further rain soon. So far tile rainfall in Canterbury and on the East Coast of the North Island and inland districts of Otago has been only moderate. HALF-AN-INCH IN MARLBOROUGH BLENHEIM. This Day. Over half an inch of rain fell throughout Marlborough last night., providing an urgently needed surcease from a prolonged dry spell, coming on top of a period of hot weather with drying winds. The fall will be sufficient to avert the threatened loss of the harvest, on the lighter country.
