AIR TERMINAL BASE
MATTER OF SELECTION CONVENIENCE AND SAFETY MAIN FACTORS J liv Telegraph —Press Association! DUNEDIN. 16th November. Convenience and safety were emphasised by the Hon. F. Jones as the main factors governing the selection of an air terminal base. "We are prepared to consider any place in New Zealand thought by the people to be suitable ns a terminal for overseas air services,” said the Minister. With two military and repair ncrudromes at Auckland and a training school at Wigram the main requirements of the Air Force were met. There was no doubt, however, that every aerodrome in the country had a definite defence, value, but the major extension of bases was not contemplated. No plans were being considered for the purchase of more seaplanes. "The opinion is expressed by people in authority and with an undeniable knowledge that 'land’ aeroplanes are now being so highly developed that the ; time is coming when they will displace 1 flying-boats,” added Mr Jones.
