HEALTH CAMPS
OVER £2,000 ALREADY RAISED Legislation now before Parliament aims at promoting physical fitness to the rising generation by the fuller organisation of opportunities for healthful sport and recreation. British authorities are similarly engaged in a great co-operative movement on a voluntary basis. In New Zealand the Health Camp movement makes an effective contribution to this great National objective at an early stage in the lives of our children. Those who are found to be undernourished or in any other way physically handicapped, are given the opportunity of physical restoration in one of the many Health Camps. Within a few weeks, these pleasant places will be filled by children who can look forward to several weeks of good diet, rest and well-organised recreation. Meanwhile, the Health stamp—“penny for health, penny for postage” —is being sold by the Post Office and many voluntary assistants who provide the means for this activity. This year’s appeal, through the medium of the Health stamp, was inaugurated on Ist October, and the number of stamps sold to 7th November total 435.391. Already the Health Camps have received benefit from the campaign to the extent of £2,121 15s sd.
