im; CROWD AT KUISV HAY llt Our Own (JoiTcspumlcut J Guy Fawkes Day was once again honoured in good old style by young and old in (lie district at Ruby Bay, when the Tamalui Buy Scouts and Cubs celebrated their annual bonfire on the beach at Ruby Bay by kind permission of Mr Boyd, on whose property a splendid lire was built. Wood fur the lire was kindly given by Mr Couch of Tasman. The fireworks were considered the best yet. the Scout committee having provided a nice stock, and private contributions, some on a very generous scale, made u very tine show indeed. The sky rockets included varieties new to most present. This year the Tamaha Girt Guide Committee provided hot saveloys and toast for all members of both Scout and Guide organisations; and a large crowd of parents and the general public join- j cd them at tea in the Automobile; Grounds on Ihe sole condition of a eon-! tribution to the commissariat. Between lea and the bonfire certain ceremonies! of investiture look place. Mrs C. H.! Mackay, District Commissioner, who : was accompanied by Miss Pierce, district secretary, enrolled two new members of the Girl Guide Committee and also a number of Brownies who had qualified for initiation. Mr G. Fraser, j Scoutmaster, also enrolled a number! of Scouts who had passed their tender- i foot tests. | Mr Jackson, chairman of the Scout; Committee, thanked the Guide Committee, Mr Boyd, Mr Couch and all who! had assisted to make such a happy i gathering. Resounding cheers were given by the scouts and the general j crowd. j It was estimated that more than ISO! people were present. Close on 50 cars; and trucks were observed parked after I *ea. This event grows in popularity ! each year.
